Infections are a major problem for hospitals and healthcare-associated infections cause thousands of deaths each year. A company by the name of Blue Ocean Robotics has developed a bacteria-killer robot that could make a huge impact in reducing infection risks. This robot can navigate through hospitals to assigned areas using a concentrated ultraviolet C light to remove harmful microorganisms. There is a guaranteed 99.99 percent disinfection rate to ensure patients and staff are safe from infections.

UV light devices are currently being used to decontaminate surgical rooms and equipment in hospitals in the United States, but these do not reach all areas of the hospital. The Blue Ocean robot has full mobility and has been tested in many Danish hospitals. This allows UV light to hit many different angles and turns off when humans enter the room to ensure safety.
