VEX Robotics Team 6430, The Trinity Dragons of Lutz, FL, closed out their 2015-2016 season in spectacular fashion with excellent performances at the VEX World Competition in Louisville, KY, April 20-23. The team is coached and mentored by occammd, a local embedded controls and IoT corporation.

Throughout the year 16,000 teams from 37 nations compete in local, regional, and state events, vying for one of the 1000 invitations to the VEX World Competition finals. In the VEX VRC high school division, Trinity teams 6430A and 6430B were blessed to win the FL State Tournament, FL State Programming Skills, and FL State Driver Skills securing invitations for both of their robots to the World finale for the third consecutive season. A new edition, rookie team 6430X, competed in the VEX IQ elementary school division and was blessed to win the FL State Tournament as well, earning an invitation to the World event.

At World’s, team 6430A placed in the top 30 of their division during the qualification round. They were then picked as an alliance of team 4915 (Hertfordshire, UK) and 7232J (MO, USA) competing through the elimination matches with a defeat in the quarter finals. Overall, it was an excellent showing for the team as they finished with a record of 6-4-1 in the match rounds and placed 35th and 36th for Programming Skills and Driver Skills respectively out of 500 high school teams in the event.

Team 6430B went undefeated during the qualification round, placing them 2nd in their division, an alliance captain for the elimination round, and one of the top 10 high school teams at the event after qualifiers. They then picked an alliance of team 1104V (Ontario, Canada) and 563 (CA, USA) which competed through the elimination matches. They were eventually defeated in the semi finals. It was an excellent showing for the team and they finished with an event record of 12-1.

It was an inaugural World event for team 6430X. The rookie fourth grade elementary school team had the opportunity to compete and make friends with teams from numerous countries and were blessed to finish in the top 100.

High School teams 6430A and 6430B went undefeated as champions throughout the regular season and had an exciting year of growth with the following results:

In June the team will be honored for their hard work and excellence in STEM with a Commendation from the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners.
